Kevin Robbins
Kevin Robbins, a senior lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin School of Journalism, is the author of Harvey Penick: The Life and Wisdom of the Man Who Wrote the Book on Golf, (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), the winner of the United States Golf Association’s Herbert Warren Wind Book Award.
Previously a staff reporter for the Scripps-Howard news service in Washington D.C., The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Austin American-Statesman, Robbins became a sports feature writer for the American-Statesman in 2002 and a Sunday columnist in 2011. He covered golf for more than a decade.
Robbins has twice won the Fred Hartman Award, given biannually by the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, for excellence in sports journalism, and was named the Cox Newspapers Sports Writer of the Year in 2004. He has been a finalist for the Livingston Award for Young Journalists and the National Headliner Award. His work also has been recognized by the Society for Features Journalism and the Best American Sports Writing anthology.
He has written for the New York Times, the Texas Monthly magazine website, espnW, Sports on Earth, Austin Way magazine, the United States Golf Association website, the U.S. Women’s Open Championship program, Golf Journal magazine, Golf.com, GolfDigest.com, Austin Golf magazine, and Travel + Leisure Golf. He has appeared on CBS, Golf Channel, and other television networks.
