R. V. Burgin
R. V. Burgin served in the First Marine Division in World War II and is a veteran of the campaigns for New Britain, Peleliu and Okinawa. Awarded the Bronze Star with a V device for his actions on Okinawa, Burgin was the platoon sergeant to Eugene Sledge, author of the classic memoir, With the Old Breed, and is portrayed in HBO’s 10-part dramatic series “The Pacific,” produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
Mr. Burgin is the author, with Bill Marvel, of Islands of the Damned (NAL Caliber, March 2010). The book has been chosen as a Main Selection of the History Book Club. He lives in Lancaster, Texas.
